Stressed out? Stress control can help you

Stressed out?

Many things can cause stress. I’m going to focus on stress related to busy schedules. Things need to get done that’s just a fact. The key is not waiting for it all to accumulate to the point of chaos. The other key is how to handle it if it does accumulate. Let’s face it we are all human and I am not going to pull punches and tell you that I can offer you a smooth technique that is going to suddenly make your stress disappear.

I believe that many of our stresses come from our own expectations and ego driven lives. We make a to do list with the intentions of accomplishing everything that is on it with minimal time only to find that it doesn’t happen or we make a list and promises with the motive of proving to yourself and others that you are an extremely efficient person and there is nothing stopping the great I am. Until of course, you have a nervous breakdown. Readers, are you with me here?

In this world today we are given many options to accomplish more. We have different effective ways to complete tasks and responsibilities, we have our 3g phones, laptops, pc, notebooks and we take great joy in them. This all allows us to be more productive, imaginative, and resourceful. But, it is also depleting us of valuable energy and causing us stress. It can be so easy to get caught up in the great age of technology that we tend to forget we are human and need a break.

Now what?

The same way cell phones and computers can crash so can we. And just because they seem to simplify our life does not mean we have less to do. Most of us just add to the list because we figure modern technology is resourceful, and for the most part it is. We on the other hand are not a machine and can become stressed with the many pursuits, task and deadlines.

Now what?  First I would suggest not packing on tons of tasks on a list to be accomplished on one day. Lowering your expectations does not mean you will not eventually complete your task. It just means that you are not setting yourself up for disappointment and burn out. Remember there is always tomorrow.

Stress control

Step away, breathe and stretch – There is nothing wrong with doing that. When you begin to feel your eyes straining while looking at the computer screen or losing your train of thought, while holding a conversation with someone on the phone, to me that may be an indication that it is time to step away do some breathing exercises and stretches.

A walk and fresh air- When stress is creeping up, that’s when I say it’s time to smell the roses. No roses? No problem. Walk and feel the fresh air. Physical activity is important in reducing stress. And taking a nice breeze or sunlight is sure to minimize tension.

Music – Have an mp3 player? Pop in the ear phones put on your favorite tune and escape for a few minutes. Better than that, slide in one of your best CD’s make a cup of tea or desired beverage and relax.

Soak in the bubbles or a hot shower – A sure way to relive some stress. Not a new idea but, still many do not take advantage of it. Me personally I love hot showers, especially during an eventful day after where I have come in contact with many different personalities. I come home drop everything and just head straight into the shower. It is my moment away and when I step out I feel brand new. Many prefer a scented bubble bath, either one will make you feel good.

Your sanity, your health

It is important to remember that your sanity and health is more important than accomplishing a series of tasks in minimal time. Sure we have responsibilities and things need to be completed but, we also have to make sure it does not interfere with our state of mind to the point where we can become sick. Having to much stress over a period of time will eventually hurt us health wise. So we must be sensible enough to put in under control as often possible.

Do not set your self up with great expectations.

"The same way cell phones and computers can crash so can we." You should put this sentence in bold as it's pretty explanatory of the concept. :) Sometimes we need and have to defrag,or to cut off power. :)
